Skiing in Campo Felice
Campo Felice, a ski resort in Abruzzo, offers numerous ski lift facilities. It can be accessed from Lucoli or Rocca di Cambio. In summer, the downhill routes can be enjoyed by mountain bike.
Overview
The Campo di Giove ski area
Campo di Giove lies in the Majella National Park, at the foot of the steep western side of the massif, between the Majella and the Morrone. The lifts start at Le Piane (about 1,160 m), a few kilometres from the village, with a car park, a bar and a beginners’ area.
The Le Piane–Guado di Coccia chairlift climbs to Guado di Coccia (about 1,676 m), the pass between the Porrara and the Majella: here there are a second bar, the mountain hut, another beginners’ area and the Serra Campanile drag lift, which rises to about 1,787 m.
According to the Abruzzo Region the area has about 15 km of slopes. The highest runs, up to about 2,350 m on the Tavola Rotonda, are currently reached only on ascents organised by the operator.
Note: this is a small ski area that depends heavily on natural snow: lifts running, open slopes and opening hours change from day to day. The operator’s official website is not always reachable: if so, phone them or check their Facebook page.

Tavola Rotonda is a freeride run, reached only on the ascents organised by the operator. The Porrara is one of the most demanding runs in the Apennines.
Off the slopes
Ski touring, ski hiking and cross-country
Some ski hiking routes start from Le Piane; from Guado di Coccia you can skin up towards the Porrara, the Tavola Rotonda and the western side of the Majella.
For cross-country skiing the operator indicates a route of about 5 km from Lake Ticino through the woods to Campo di Giove railway station.

The village
Campo di Giove, 1,064 m
Campo di Giove is a mountain village of medieval origin, among beech woods and high plateaus. The old town still has fine palaces with carved doorways and windows: Casa Quaranta (15th century), Palazzo delle Logge (16th century), Palazzo Nanni (17th century) and the parish church of Sant’Eustachio.

Leave the A24/A25 motorway at Pratola Peligna–Sulmona and drive up from Sulmona to Campo di Giove; the lifts are at Le Piane, just outside the village. In winter you need snow chains or winter tyres: check the snow report before you go. All connections are on the Getting around Abruzzo page.
