⛷️Downhill skiing and snowboarding

From the wide slopes of the Alto Sangro to those above 2,000 metres at Campo Imperatore, Abruzzo has resorts for everyone, with ski schools and rental. Check the snow report before you go.

🎿Cross-country skiing

The high plateaus are ideal for cross-country skiing: groomed loops in beech woods or wide open spaces, where the snow lasts a long time.

🥾Snowshoeing

With snowshoes you can walk through snowy woods without knowing how to ski: good clothing is enough and, to start, an easy route or a guided outing.

🏔️Ski touring

Climbing on skins and skiing down off-piste in the gullies of the Gran Sasso, Velino or Majella: for experienced skiers, with avalanche safety gear and after reading the Meteomont bulletin.

❄️Snow walks and treks

Even without special gear you can enjoy lovely walks on the trodden paths around villages and lakes; with microspikes and poles you can reach the nearest huts and viewpoints.

🏇On horseback

Horse rides through woods and along rivers, suitable for beginners too: in winter they run when snow and weather allow, always booked with the stables.

🛷Sledging, bobsleigh, skating and snowmobiles

For children and non-skiers: sledging areas near the lifts, ice rinks open even when it doesn’t snow and, at Casamaina, snowmobiles.

  • Roccarasosledging and bobsleigh at Pizzalto and Aremogna, ice rink
  • Ovindolisledges on the lower slopes, for families
  • Casamainaice rink and snowmobile hire
